Your driver will meet you at Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB). From there you’ll drive directly to Sigiriya (approx. 3.5 hours). The rest of the day is free to relax at your hotel, swim, or explore the local village atmosphere. Staying in Sigiriya puts you close to the famous rock fortress for an early start tomorrow.

Morning climb of Sigiriya Lion Rock, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The 5th‑century fortress offers incredible views and ancient frescoes. Later, visit the Dambulla Cave Temple – a series of five caves filled with Buddhist statues and murals. If you have time, add a village safari (bullock cart, catamaran ride, and traditional lunch) or a jeep safari at nearby Habarana to see wild elephants.

After breakfast, drive to Kandy, the last royal capital. En route, stop at a spice garden to see how cinnamon, cardamom, and other spices are grown. In Kandy, visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, which houses a tooth of the Buddha. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Kandyan cultural dance show (fire walking, drumming). Explore more of Kandy. Start at the Royal Botanical Garden, Peradeniya – famous for its orchids and giant bamboo. Then take a stroll around Kandy Lake and visit the viewpoint for a panoramic shot of the city. You’ll also have free time for souvenir shopping (gem shops, batik, tea).

Drive into the hill country to Nuwara Eliya (“Little England”). Stop at a tea factory and plantation to see how the world‑famous Ceylon tea is produced and enjoy a free tasting. Along the way, admire the Ramboda Falls. Upon arrival, visit Gregory Lake where you can go boating or just relax. The cool climate is a welcome change from the coastal heat.

Spend the day exploring Nuwara Eliya’s British colonial charm. Visit Victoria Park, a beautiful public garden, and take a city tour that includes the post office, golf course, and hill club. You can also visit a strawberry farm or go horse riding. This relaxed day helps you acclimatize before the train journey tomorrow.

Today you take one of the most scenic train rides in the world – from Ambewela (near Nuwara Eliya) to Ella. The journey passes through tea plantations, misty mountains, and waterfalls. Your driver will meet you at Ella station. Visit the iconic Nine Arch Bridge, a colonial‑era viaduct nestled in jungle. Overnight in Ella.

Ella is a hiker’s paradise. Start with a short climb to Little Adam’s Peak for sunrise views. Then visit Ravana Falls, a beautiful waterfall right by the main road. For the more adventurous, hike Ella Rock (guides recommended). The rest of the day you can relax at a café, visit a local spice garden, or simply enjoy the laid‑back mountain vibe.

Drive to Udawalawe National Park (approx. 2.5 hours). In the afternoon, go on a jeep safari – Udawalawe is famous for its large herds of wild elephants. You’re almost guaranteed to see dozens of elephants, plus water buffalo, crocodiles, and many birds. The park is less crowded than Yala and offers excellent photography opportunities.

Morning drive to Yala National Park. Yala is renowned for having the highest density of leopards in the world. Take an afternoon safari (the best time to see wildlife). Apart from leopards, you’ll see sloth bears, elephants, deer, and peacocks. Stay overnight near the park entrance to maximise your safari experience.

Leave the wildlife behind and drive to the south coast – Mirissa, one of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful beach towns. Relax on the golden sand, swim in the turquoise water, and climb the famous Coconut Tree Hill for an Instagram‑worthy sunset view. In the evening, enjoy fresh seafood at a beachfront restaurant.

Early morning option: go whale watching in Mirissa (season November–April). You’ll see blue whales, sperm whales, and dolphins. Afterwards, your driver will take you back to Colombo Airport (approx. 3.5 hours) for your departure flight. If you have extra days, you could spend them in Colombo or Negombo.
